Photography
A body of photographic work spanning portrait, editorial, and documentary — images made on set, on location, and in the studio. The camera is a secondary tool; the primary one is attention.
Photography in a design practice occupies an awkward position. It is expected to serve the work — to document, to illustrate, to fill a layout — rather than to be the work. The challenge is to make images that do both: that function as designed objects and hold up as photographs.
Every shoot begins with the same question: what does this image need to do? The answer determines everything else — lens choice, light quality, distance, timing. There is no house style, only a consistent standard of attention. The work looks different from project to project because the subjects are different. That is the point.
The photographic work has been published in editorial contexts, used in brand campaigns, and exhibited as standalone prints. Several images have outlasted the projects they were made for — which is the only measure that matters. You can view more of my photography on instagram @dpangione
